October24th Parrsboro Field Trip – Update

Posted in 2009 on October 23rd, 2009 by deanhirtle – Be the first to comment

Hi folks,

Although the weather forecast for tomorrow afternoon is not great, Clarence plans to proceed with the field trip, recognizing it may not go the full day if the weather turns for the worse during the day. (The forecast for all day Sunday is poor.)

If you plan to go tomorrow (Saturday October 24th), please call Clarence at 506-758-2979 and leave a message with your name, the fact that you plan to attend and your phone number or email him at cjnowlan@nb.sympatico.ca . The plan for tomorrow is to meet at 9 am at the Tim Horton’s in Parrsboro, but please call or email Clarence if you plan to attend – (if he doesn’t receive any calls or emails, he won’t be there.)

Thank you.

Dean

Blueberry Fields of Parrsboro changed to Saturday Oct 24th!

Posted in 2009 on October 16th, 2009 by Peter Steeper – Be the first to comment

I just spoke to Clarence who has been watching the weather very closely.

Blueberry fields are late this year, the forecast is not good for tomorrow and Sunday so Clarence is changing the trip to Saturday Oct 24th.
Meet at Tim Hortons in Parrsboro at 9:00 am.
People need to bring boots, raincoat and dress warmly. It is cold in that area at this time of the year. Participants will be given a map of the area in which we are going. The field trip will end at sunset.
Clarence has gone to the New Canaan area twice in the last week and some of the fields are completely red and others are a tapestry of green, orange with a mixture of red.  Spectacular views.  From one place you can see Amherst from the top.  Clarence will be stopping at the “Glooscap” restaurant for dinner.  After dinner he will return to the New Canaan area.

Waterfall Field Trip now Sunday 11th.

Posted in 2009 on October 9th, 2009 by johnwmwebb – Be the first to comment
Hi All:  The waterfall field trip will be moved to Sunday 11th. (due to the forecast of rain)
We are still meeting at 8:30 am Exit 4. Hwy 101 (Ellershouse, St.Croix , Newport) and depart from the car pool on the left of the Stop sign 0.5 km.
Plan is to proceed to Blomidon Prov Park and take in the rapids and two waterfalls. One being 30 meters high the other drops into the Minas Basin.
We then will stop at the Look Off and then proceed towards Baxter’s Hbr.
The intrepid and adventurous ones will proceed to the Haunted Falls at Black Hole. This fall is beautiful but quite treacherous to negotiate. Its your decision to take this one or another one more accessible just down the road. Cobb Irving Falls.  A little easier to get into and also nice on top of the falls that is very easy to access. This falls drops straight down approx 20 meters and  is in a very pretty setting. After that we will go to Baxter’s Hbr only a couple of kms away and a nice falls.
Plan is still to have supper at The Port in Port Williams at 5 pm. (Sunday)
Bring along rubber boots as the water is now high and brooks and streams have to be crossed.
Pack a lunch and fluids as there will be no stores on our route.
Please bring along a signed copy of your Waiver.

John
