LightroomDuring my presentation on monitor profiling we were discussing how to do soft proofing in Adobe Photoshop. While Lightroom doesn’t provide soft proofing there is a plugin for soft proofing from Lightroom Plugins. Thanks to Colin Campbell for the tip.

South Shore Field Trip-Saturday, June 11th

Posted in 2010 on June 5th, 2011 by deanhirtle – Be the first to comment

On this field trip, we are going to Cosbys garden centre in Liverpool, the Rhododendron park if there are blooms left, and the Blockhouse car dump. All places are easy, flat, short walks.

9:15 am- Meet (take Exit 13- Hwy 103) in Bridgewater-left turn, go to the lights on High St., right turn for 3 blocks to Tim Hortons (on the left) for a pit stop. Park across the street in the shopping centre lot where you can leave your car all day if you can share a ride or transport others.
9:30-leave for Exit 19-Liverpool-HWY 103
1. Cosby’s Garden centre-photograph many life size sculptures of human/fantasy figures in a magical woodland setting. A unique place-cement sculptures created by the owner.
11:45am- Lunch at Lanes Privateer Inn Liverpool (right by the town bridge)-great pub food
PM-Return to Bridgewater, pick up your parked cars by Tims (pit stop) on the way through Bridgewater to Mr. Langille’s car dump in Blockhouse.
The car dump is small, private, neat and clean and there are wrecked, colorful vehicles & school buses. Lots of parking space by the garage and wrecked vehicles are behind the garage and across the road behind the house.
Supper for those interested-Anchor Pub, Main St. Mahone Bay.
For those who want more-maybe there’ll be a sunset at Blue Rocks.
Please bring water, bug repellant and a signed waiver.
Note -If the Rhododendrons are still blooming at Pine Grove park near Liverpool we will go there before or after Cosbys-many colors have been planted in the 48 acre wooded park/pond area and the huge bushes are quite stunning, but may be over by then.

AGS Field Trip – Bramber Area of the Noel Shore – Saturday May 28th

Posted in 2010 on May 24th, 2011 by deanhirtle – Be the first to comment

Hello everyone

For this year’s AGS-PGNS field trip we return to the Noel Shore and will walk a section of beach near Bramber. The tides dictate that this will be an afternoon field trip, catching the late afternoon sunlight on the cliffs (at least in part). We will meet at the beach parking lot at Cheverie (map circulated in email to PGNS Google Group) at 1.00 pm, and do some necessary carpooling, and then proceed in as few vehicles as possible to the “beach-head” at Mutton Cove, where parking is limited. There should be sufficient room to leave most cars at Cheverie, but please share a ride to Cheverie if you can. Please arrive having had lunch or packed a sandwich (or whatever you fancy) to eat on the run. Please note that services are limited on the Noel Shore.

The beach that we will traverse today is rocky and in places may be slippery with mud or seaweed. The walking is a little challenging, though should be no problem for those who are of average fitness and used to walking moderate distances regularly. Please know your own capability and don’t do anything that you are not comfortable doing or go anywhere that you are not comfortable going. Please use footwear with good ankle support. Wellington boots are not appropriate. We will not be in a rush … low tide is at 4.30 and we will have a 90 minute window after that.

To get to the meeting spot at Cheverie, take exit 5 from Highway 101 northeast to Brooklyn. In Brooklyn, follow signs onto Highway 215 north to Cheverie and Walton (the latter will probably be the prominent name on the signs). The journey to Cheverie Beach is 60-90 minutes from Metro depending on your starting point.

I will plan to post a digital field guide later in the week, but if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me (info below). Please don’t leave a voice mail at my work number after 5 pm Friday; I will monitor email until leaving the house on Saturday, after which, if you need to contact me urgently (for example if you get lost), use Lorraine’s cell phone number please.

The rain date will be Sunday, one hour later.
