Svalbard: A Frozen World
Katherine Kepkay

Svalbard, a remote Norwegian archipelago in the High Arctic, is a beautiful frozen world located about 600km from the North Pole. It is known for its dramatic landscapes, extensive glaciers and unique wildlife such as polar bears, walruses, Arctic foxes, Svalbard reindeer and many bird species. Despite its remote location, this pristine environment is fragile, a casualty of climate change and one of the fastest warming places on Earth.

Bio:
I’ve been interested in photography ever since I was gifted a Brownie camera as a young child. As years passed, photography took the form of snapshots documenting life’s important moments. It wasn’t until retirement when I purchased my first pricey DSLR camera that it became a serious hobby and ever since then, I’ve been down the photography gear rabbit hole. In 2019, I joined PGNS which has given me opportunities to hone my craft and creativity in this medium. Photography has allowed me to see the world differently though the lens, explore new perspectives, and tell the visual stories of my travel adventures whether it is to faraway places or just my backyard.

PGNS members can go to the members only page for the WebEx link to the meeting.
