PGNS Program for 2020/2021

As the summer is winding down, we are getting ready for the coming PGNS 2020-21 season. Our Program is now available on our website. You can download the program from the Schedule page, just follow the instructions under the calendar. The program may change, so please always check the online version just in case…

Note, due to the pandemic, our regular meetings will be virtual until the further notice. Once it’ll be safe to gather at the museum and the museum opens its doors for events like ours, we will inform you about the changes.

Looking forward to seeing you (online) at our Season Opener at 7:30 pm on September 9.

Happy shooting,
Laszlo

PGNS Program

Dear fellow Guild members,

I hope you all are doing well and ready for an interesting season. As I mentioned it earlier, our usual meeting place is unavailable for us for the rest of the year and we are not sure if they open up for events in early 2021. Based on this, we will schedule our meetings as online meetings. The Guild now has a WebEx account and that will help us in this matter. It will not provide the same experience as the in-person meetings at the museum, but we’ll try to make it as good as possible.

The Executive team is finalizing the program and as soon as we will have it ready, we will make it available to you.

Our first meeting is usually a Wine & Cheese Season Opener. That cannot happen this year, so we’ll have an online version of it. The “Season Opener / Welcome” session will be at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, September 9. After the Executive Update, we’ll have a Show & Tell session. If you would like to show up to 10 of your images (or a video), please send them to me (president@photoguild.ns.ca). If you are planning to show a video, please use www.wetransfer.com to send them to me. Please send the files before the end of August if possible.

Another date you can pencil into your calendar is September 12. We will have a “PGNS Social/Photo Get Together” at the Halifax Public Gardens at 9:30 am on Saturday, September 12. We’ll have some small treats for those who come. We will need to follow the Provincial Health Guidelines, so social distancing (and masks if social distancing is not possible) will be required. Detailed field trip guidelines will be sent to you once we finalize the wording.

Stay safe,
Laszlo

2020 / 2021 Program

As September is approaching quickly and Covid-19 is still hanging around, this coming 2020/21 season will be somewhat different from usual. The Museum of Natural History informed us that they will not open for events at least until December. We already know that a second wave might be coming in or after November, so the rest of the season will not be easier either.

Your Executive team has been discussing the options and it seems that we’ll be using WebEx or similar solution for our meetings. You have probably attended several photography related webinars during the lockdown, our meetings will be similar to those.

Competitions are integral part of our program and this year the judging will go online. We have been looking around for judging software and ended up making one locally (thanks to Darryl) and this solution satisfies most of the requirements we have got used to over the years.

During the field trips we’ll need to follow the provincial guidelines and that can change during the season, depending on the actual Covid situation.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Stay safe,
Laszlo Podor
